Death

TagLast edit: 28 Mar 2024 12:19 UTC by MondSemmel

Even if the stars should die in heaven
Our sins can never be undone
No single death will be forgiven
When fades at last the last lit sun.
Then in the cold and silent black
As light and matter end
We’ll have ourselves a last look back
And toast an absent friend.

– Song of Dath Ilan, Eliezer Yudkowsky

First you’re there, and then you’re not there, and they can’t change you from being not there to being there, because there’s nothing there to be changed from being not there to being there. That’s death. This tag includes posts about the deaths of particular people, or about death in general.

Cryonicists use the concept of information-theoretic death, which is what happens when the information needed to reconstruct you even in principle is no longer present. Anything less, to them, is just a flesh wound.

Do not miss the cutoff for immortality! There is a probability that you will live forever as an immortal superintelligent being and you can increase your odds by convincing others to make achieving the technological singularity as quickly and safely as possible the collective goal/project of all of humanity, Similar to “Fable of the Dragon-Tyrant.”
