the learning curve for contact lenses is crazy. the first time i put them in and took them out, it took literally hours. on the 10th time, it took maybe 10 minutes. on the 100th time, closer to 30 seconds. i’m nearing 1000 times now and on a good day it can take only 5 seconds.
...okay, I think I was much faster than you. When I started using contacts as a teen, the optometrist place had me do two 30 minute sessions with an employee that just involved me putting in my contacts. At the beginning the time required was ‘infinite’ (in that my reflex to close my eyes made it impossible to get a contact in), at the end the median time was probably like 30 seconds. The improvement since then has been in reliability.
Did you just buy lenses and only then try to put them in? When I tried to get contacts, I went to a optometrist, and they didn’t allow me to take home the lenses to practice, because they said it could be dangerous, so I only tried for a minute or so. They said I should just learn to touch my eye without flinching and then come back, but that never worked so I never did. Did you practice to touch your pupil without flinching before trying to put lenses in, and if so, did you manage it?
I had the same problem in the UK. I bought them instead online, at www.visiondirect.co.uk/ which doesn’t need prescription. You’ll need to tell the website which contact lens prescription you want to buy, but Claude can calculate that from your glasses prescription. Then practice at home, and you’ll quickly upskill.
Am I the only one cringing at this so heavily that I’m basically 100% certain I’ll never wear contact lenses in my life? I have 0 intention to ever learn such a thing. :O

Just to confirm, do you mean literally hours or is it just a manner of speech?
I spent ~2 hours trying before I had put both contacts in and taken both of them out. This time was split over like two sitting.
I too spent hours the first few times and seconds now.
Taking out soft contact lenses can be a lot harder for very short slighted people because the lenses are thicker and less flexible.
