They no longer print your boarding pass if it’s within 60 minutes of an international flight
Does this matter anymore with boarding passes on phones?
TSA Pre used to be incredibly worth it, even with the (one time) in person interview, but I feel like the normal lines have got a lot better in the last few years so I’m not sure if it’s as valuable anymore. Global Entry is pretty nice if you fly through airports where it matters though.

I honestly don’t know. Historically trying to get a boarding pass on my phone has had a pretty mixed hit rate. Different points of failure each time too.
You mean at the machines? If you mean at home, the process to check in online stops me before that point, for different reasons.
For example the Virgin Atlantic website literally couldn’t find my ticket in my most recent attempts (both traveling to the UK and back). I believe my attempts failed before for other reasons.
That’s interesting. I guess I’ve always gotten an email saying “time to check in” or whatever, and gone to the link, and entered the confirmation code like AUWKDS or whatever, and gotten my ticket. Maybe the only exception was when I was abroad and the airline/airport required in-person check-in for some visa-related reason.
If you have precheck and a passport (and at a participating airport), it seems touchless ID is becoming the “new” precheck in terms of a large efficiency improvement over standard security, though I wouldn’t be surprised if its benefit also becomes negligible in a few years.[1]
This could take longer, given that some people seem to be explicitly against using touchless ID because of privacy concerns. TSA claims that “Images are not used for law enforcement, surveillance, nor shared with other entities”, but it’s reasonable to be suspicious here.

How could this be? You can just capture a screenshot of the boarding pass right
