One problem is that (from my outsider view) one major way people become more impactful is by working on less tractable but higher impact and neglectedness stuff! Earlier work may be more biased towards tractability: you aren’t confident in your own abilities, aren’t already established and so need more career capital, and typically they look more legibly good.
I’m not saying skewing towards career capital should be entirely off-limits, but given the way biases work one should be wary
