I’m confused about C-Zombies. Is there or is there not something externally detectable about the condition?
For P-Zombies, there’s no test for qualia, so they’re truly indistinguishable from qualiawhavers. This includes indistinguishable. behavior and indistinguishable substrate (we can tell differences, but we have no clue if they affect qualia).
For C-Zombies, how is this different? They’re behaviorally the same as people—they’ll claim to have consciousness and experience qualia (or otherwise act in ways that make you suspect it). They’re measurably different in substrate, but are you saying there’s some objective test we can apply to determine consciousness?
C-Zombies run on a different substrate unlike P-zombies, that’s all
I don’t think I talked about my views in this article beside saying I believed uploads were likely conscious. But yeah I think there are tests you can do to identify consciousness
If there are tests, I’ll update my models and understanding. In the absence of such tests, I think “different substrate” is ALREADY one of the potential reasons people hypothesize p-zombies, and I don’t understand how c-zombies are any different.
p-zombies is the idea of someone being exactly the same, not just in their behavior but also in their composition, except they’re not conscious (according to my memory of Wikipedia). c-zombies behave the same given the same input but the internal structure manipulating the input into an output is different. not trying to convince you of anything with this comment, just definitions
