I’ve been practicing the opposite advice for “on fire Admin.”
Sure, making my bed and clearing out dirty dishes from my room are unnecessary in comparison with my studies or job. So is folding my laundry and picking up the dirty clothes off the floor. Cleaning my car, taking that pile of junk to goodwill....
But if I don’t do it, I’ll have to look at piles of junk all day, every day, until I deal with them. And unless I’m truly planning on never cleaning them up, it’s not going to cost me much more time in the long run to do all those tidying tasks right away.
So I’ve shifted to prioritizing whatever’s “on fire” for my life right this minute. The taxes can wait until the week before tax day. I’ve never had any trouble getting them done on time, and neither the IRS nor I care about getting them in early.
This tip was intended for those things were you can really truly never do them. E.g. Since thinking more about this, I stopped folding my pjs, and found I’m just as happy this way as I was folding them perfectly Marie Kondo style.
