MolochMoloch whose mind is pure machinery!
Moloch whose blood is running money!
Moloch whose fingers are ten armies!
Moloch whose breast is a cannibal dynamo!
Moloch whose ear is a smoking tomb!
A reference to Scott Alexander’s classic essay Meditatons on Moloch, in which the evil god ‘Moloch’ is made the face of all human coordination problems and the suffering and strife that they lead to.

In a problem where no actor is ultimately responsible, we figuratively name Moloch responsible, to have an enemy to fight.

This react is appropriate when someone is regrettably fighting a faceless bureaucracy, or a culture, or something much larger than a single human, that no human fully determines or controls.
