When you see someone (starting with someone in a position of authority) raise their arm, you raise your arm as well
While your arm is raised, you cease talking

Of course, this one requires that everyone in the room have been taught this convention and practiced it. So it’s most at e.g.: a summer camp, which is where I learned it.
As an autistic person, for much of my life I was told that I was oblivious and in the wrong in many social situations, which installed a vulnerability in me that made me much more likely to accept blame any time someone accused me of socially erring in the future. Only in my mid-20′s did I realize I had been deeply manipulated and had acted perfectly fine in many of those situations. These kinds of accusations can do deep damage.
