Great series so far, I’m looking forward to the next post!
Like John_Maxwell_IV, I’m not sure I understood everything in the “Moving Towards The Goal” either, especially the bit about the difference between Moving Towards The Goal and Trying Very Hard. Notably, this bit:
If anything, a difficult path is worth extra points, because it means I’m pursuing admirable goals.
… seems to slightly contradict the bit about “finding the most efficient path. Minimizing effort.”, or at least, I can’t put the two together in my mind in a satisfying way.
What I get from that session is, roughly, that my “attention/willpower” is better spent considering which goals are worthwhile and brainstorming on the best way to get there, as opposed to pushing myself.
Anyway, the next post may make things clearer, and anyway, I’ll probably reread the sequence to get a better understanding (I’m taking notes and entering them into Anki, among my other productivity insights and quotes).
What I was trying to say is that when it turns out that the easiest path is still hard, this is worth extra fuzzy-points because I’m pushing myself / growing / pursuing worthy goals, etc.
This is a nice because, when in this mindset, increasing effort does not require a corresponding increase in willpower expenditure.
