I am a soon-to-be parent living in a group house and I think it’s a workable solution that should be normalized more, especially in expensive cities.
You don’t have as much space as a suburban nuclear family in a single-family home. But it is much easier to share childcare labor, get experience caring for children when you’re not yet a parent, and support stay-at-home parents in a group house. (The last one because of fixed costs; it’s more expensive for Bob to support Alice and Donald to support Carol than for Bob + Donald to support Alice + Carol.)
