I like the first paragraph a lot, but I haven’t encountered the described simplistic rigidity that much (partly or mostly because I ignore a lot of “the community” parts of discussions), and the analogies don’t click for me. Gooey and prickly is kind of evocative, but I can’t figure out how to use it. The hardware/os/software analogy is just weird, I get hardware/firmware/software as a model, but it doesn’t map the way you describe.
