There is clearly some validity to the view but I would hardly make it a core determinant of human behavior, preferences or decision making. If we’re all waiting for someone else to show us what we want, we all starved to death long ago. But there is something to be said for lumpy and faddish behavior in social and economic activities that cannot be well explained by pure internal self reasoning analysis.
