I think this massively understates it. The US will, by default, no longer be a liberal democracy if it ‘wins’ the race to ASI, because the governance structure of the ASIs won’t be a liberal democracy, but rather some sort of oligarchy or dictatorship (e.g. the CEO, the Board, etc. decide). Fortunately this default is not locked-in; it is quite plausible that the government will wake up to some degree and exert some amount of control over the AIs before the AIs get smart enough to help the company prevent this. But yeah.
