FYI we actually fairly frequently personal-blog Jeff Kaufman’s posts, depending on how niche they seem.
I think the mods have some internal debate about fiction. I’m personally particularly not thrilled to see fiction from new users who haven’t also presented some nonfiction content so it’s easier to get some sense of how well-thought they are. (Whereas I can skim the intro of a nonfiction post and get a sense of whether the core argument makes sense, it’s hard to evaluate fiction without reading the whole thing and then stewing a bit on it).
I’m not sure if we have a consistent policy on general frontpaging of fiction – we go through some periods where there’s a lot of it and then people tend to downvote it more aggressively, but good fiction tends to get upvoted at least in small doses.
I liked this bit of fiction and am personally glad to see it on the site. I think others can upvote/downvote it based on whether they personally got value out of it being on-site.
