One reason pasture access may be getting worse (if it is) is because the dairy industry has shifted its center of gravity to the desert southwest where the climate is hostile to cattle. It is easier to manage feed, waste, etc., in a very dry climate. But there is little acceptable forage and there are many days where it is much too hot for bos taurus. If anyone has questions about raising cattle ask.
Do you happen to know if any dairy farms are selective about who they sell their calves to? As in, if there’s a dairy farm that treats their cows well are they likely to sell their calves to beef farms that treat their cows well? Or should I assume it’s just to the highest bidder?
