There’s a perceived asymmetry because different senses operate differently. Hearing operates mostly in the frequency/momentum domain, and gives very little positional informational ..so little that we can be fooled by ventriloquism or stereo speakers. Sight operates mostly in the position domain (although colour vision includes some frequency information), and sight is the dominant sense for humans.
