I helped with a previous situation similar to this and ‘contact the journalists’ was a definite step in our process.
If useful, I may be able to get you in touch with people who have experience on the researcher side here, or ask advice from some senior journalists.
We did reach out to the contact email for each of the publications. Only one responded, and they denied that there was anything wrong in their article. It might be useful to reach out again linking this blog post, though.
I recommend reaching out to the authors of the pieces and their respective editors directly, rather than using a general contact email.
