Opposite ends of the effect, cynical is not believing in the rule itself, ruthless is not caring about the harm you are causing. A cynical person could take the bribe, without thinking it does any harm at all.
I suppose I am quite used to / like clear communication with a point. You may have your preferred style, but it comes across as a draft if you are used to lesswrong standard. I would say write how you like, but keep expecting to either not get feedback or get this feedback again.
My preferred style is clear communication with at least one point, but that doesn’t have to mean a single thesis.
I disagree on the distinction you are trying to draw between cynical and ruthless (disregard for rules versus disregard for harm), I’ve seen both used for both. But mileage may vary, and people can make up their own mind.
