I think pluralism is an important goal. It doesn’t make sense for everyone in a field to try to achieve the same goal. It’s good if different goals get persued.
A lot of scientific breakthrough don’t haven because people planned to have a breakthrough. When looking at the scientific revolutions that Kuhn describes they often lead to asking new questions that weren’t previously available.
