Which, like, where am I gonna find hard data on the incidence of coups via unreasonably high levels of coordination seizing control of the state’s info-processing apparatus (thus causing the records to misreport reality as a side effect)?
You may be interested in the National Salvation Front. With only a little simplification, when Ceausescu was overthrown six people showed up to the state-controlled media center, announced the creation of the NSF and that they were now in charge. Four days later they were the government.
That sounds like a totally normal coup, openly seizing power and thus creating a Schelling point for everyone to fall in line behind them. Maybe they lied about having written earlier manifestos that also acted as a Schelling point, but that would just be a single lie; and just a bald assertion, not backed up by the authority of some “info-processing apparatus.”
