I think the TikTok comment section has degraded over the years. I used to find the comments joyful and funny. Eugene Wei wrote an excellent three-part series of articles on TikTok in 2020. In one of them, he says:
I can’t remember the last time I watched a good TikTok video without then opening up the comments to see what the peanut gallery came up with. Sometimes I read the comments before even finishing the video. TikTok’s method of ranking comments almost always surfaces the best and most relevant comments to the top. However you feel about a video, it’s uncanny how often one of the top five comments encapsulates it perfectly.

Never read the comments. Unless you’re on TikTok, in which case, always read the comments.
His articles convinced me to start using TikTok, and when I did, in 2021, I agreed with him. The comments were great. Like he says, one of the top five comments often encapsulated your feelings perfectly. Also, they were quite funny. Now all I can say is that one of the top five comments is often something negative. When someone is being lighthearted or funny, it’s often with a dancing gif, not text.
