Idk if this is a useful response to what you say, but for me the main point is that Soryu is abusive, and he both normalizes and obscures his abuse (framing what is fact harm as good).
I do think that there is a separate issue of, well, does he(/MAPLE) have a point about destruction of life, worldwide suicide cult, etc etc? And those things are worthy of discussion, and imo are pretty much entirely a separate issue.
Well, I’m sorta mostly sympathetic, but I think “what is [in] fact harm” is doing most of the work here. So you’ll find basically every traditionally trained living teacher being like “oh sure, the teachers I revere absolutely treat their students like shit, scream at them, demean them, etc. This is functional! I endorse this!”—and I’m like, ok well, in decent part this stops being an objection about soryu himself.
