I like the general message here, but I feel like the part about “look, if you don’t want to practice, then don’t be on lesswrong” is missing some important “outs”.
Sometimes people have real disagreements about which things actually make sense to gloss in a given context.
Insofar as there’s a real disagreement about whether a particular distinction is worth tracking in a particular context, there’s room to say “look, I don’t currently think that the skill of tracking the distinction you’re trying to point to is actually that valuable as a part of a toolkit for effective cognition, so I’m not going to put in a bunch of translation effort just to practice it.” And then the other party has an opportunity to argue why the skill of tracking this particular distinction IS relatively valuable. But the key is that that move is not itself, like, a defection against a community standard of practice.
