Just now rushes onto Less Wrong to ask about taking advantage of 4chan’s current offer of customized ad space to generate donations for MIRI

Perfect.
So, would it be a good idea? The sheer volume of 4chan’s traffic makes it a decent pool for donations, and given the attitude of its demographic, it might be possible to pitch the concept in an appealing way.
LessWrong has been linked to multiple times, at least from the /mlp/ board. (Friendship is Optimal may be a proximate cause for most of these links...)
I would assume that there is a good chance of a few 4chan members finding LW through MIRI, but a fairly small chance that a large enough number to cause problems will.

Linking to MIRI’s donation page might be useful but please please don’ link to LessWrong on 4chan—it could have some horrible consequences.

Ads have the potential to drive in a lot more traffic (especially in a negative way) than posts.
What’s the likelihood of 4chan finding LW by way of MIRI?
Around zero:

Someone on 4chan is likely to know of MIRI’s connection to LW, and point that out there.

A few members of 4chan that want to cause problems can encourage other members to go along with them.
