lab salaries are putting upward pressure on AI safety salaries more generally. This is crowding out charity bucks that could have been better spent elsewhere.
We all like to pretend to ourselves that money and status isn’t that important to us. It seems that in your heart of hearts the money really did materially matter. If it matters to a moral pioneer such as yourself then it certainly will matter a lot to others.
