People enjoyed the story because it was funny/absurd, played into amusing stereotypes, and was overall an entertaining read, even if the themes are unenlightening/uncontroversial and the educational content is not substantial (for frequent LessWrong readers, at least). People will generally gravitate towards what is light and pleasant, even (and especially) if it somewhat frivolous, and this forum is not exempt from human nature.
It is quite strange to me that you would describe this story as “light and pleasant.” I can understand funny/absurd for the right sense of humor that is not mine.
I apologize for any unclear writing on my part; by describing this post as “light and pleasant”, I intended to convey that it was not difficult to read or understand (“light”) and that many would find it humorous or entertaining (“pleasant”).
