Isn’t this already a consequence of population growth*? If we believe population growth will continue, things that will last a long time and impact the world are of much higher (or lower, if they’re negative!) value than things that just impact people alive today.
*Or even long-term stability of future populations. If we think society will stabilize at the same number of people as today, but will go on for millenia, things that help people over millenia will cause much more good.

Population growth does shift us some towards investing over saving, but if the world were splitting on every quantum event we would need to shift much more.
