I know you are following Hanson et. al in using it, but people are already very resistant to engaging with this type of “far out” discussion. It really doesn’t make it any easier to take the issue seriously when the best material you can show them is full of phrases such as “grabby alien expansion is constrained by a number of factors”, and big graphics with ‘Grabby Origin’ at the centre.
‘Expansionist’? I hadn’t thought about it, particularly. It just struck me how silly it was making everything sound, even to me. I can only imagine how quickly it would be dismissed by my more weirdness-resistant friends, who unfortunately are representative of a lot of the world, including many of the people we need to persuade to take these things seriously.
