To my knowledge, a publisher even released two printed volumes (sales figures unknown; new copies are no longer available for online purchase, covering the first 20 chapters). If you’re referring to crowdfunding for physical book printing, I’d be willing to assist, though I have no relevant experience.
It’s plausible that people should just do things and not just be willing to assist with doing things!
Please note that one unfortunate effect of our effort was that Rowling now limits how many copies of a work of fanfiction can be printed; a few years ago, the cap was at 25.
(I don’t have takes on how much they’d enforce it if you stay completely non-profit and don’t take any of the money for yourself or on how important it is to comply ’and I don’t know anything about the state of fair use doctrine in China and whether this would fall under it.)
If someone lives a China, has a lot of context on Chinese politics, reaction to external things, etc., they can try. But I‘d be surprised if it’s easy.
