Promoted to curated: I am generally quite hesitant to curate posts like this, since I like the focus of LessWrong to be on content that is generally timeless and is about deeper patterns in the world and the art of reasoning. However, I do think that despite this post being in some sense about recent events, that it definitely has a lot of content that I think is broadly relevant to a lot of people, and also, as recent events go, the whole FTX and SBF thing is quite high up there in terms of probably still being relevant in 10 years or so.
This post feels like the best concrete story that weaves the different threads that made up FTX into something that makes coherent sense to me. It situates both the recklessness and the whole EA thing into a shared story, as well as all the conflict-of-interest and dating stuff that seems like it played a large role. And for all of those I feel like I got closer to take away realistic lessons from FTX, both via concrete suggestions in the post and via combining the broader frame proposed in this post with ideas in other posts.
