i tried telling people that i work for a rogue AI building technologies to proliferate autonomous agents (among other things). The reaction was polite confusion. It seemed a bit unreal for everyone to be talking about the world ending and doing normal conference behaviors anyway.
Polite confusion is kind of the best you can hope for when someone says that?
Idk, seems like the best you can hope for in this context is a polite-but-pointed conversation that goes like:
″...why are you doing that?”
″...because <reasons? AI surpremacism? I don’t know deepfates’ deal well>”
″...why do you have those reasons?”
″...because <metareasons>”
″...what about <meta-counter-reasons>”?
and then, at that point the convo forks into either a polite “well, seems evil/sad, please don’t”, or “are there any positive sum trades I could do to convince you to do less of that on current margins that aren’t basically blackmail?”, or, probing more to understand the worldview better.
