Years ago, I learned/discovered that you can just kinda bake various veggies in a microwave: potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, parsley, pumpkin, even onion and garlic (beetroot is doable but more problematic because it requires more time, and/or needs to be chopped more finely).[1]
Prepared in this way, they taste (to me) mostly ceteris paribus better than boiled in water, or steamed, and almost on par with baking.[2]
Whenever I mentioned to someone that “hey, btw, you can just do potatoes or carrots in a microwave”, they rolled in disbelief. For some reason (oops?), it never occured to me to look around on the internet whether this is or was popular in any corners of the world. Reading this post was thus quite satisfying to me.
I don’t remember what made me try it. Plausibly, the same sort of curiosity that made me blend bananas with black beans or add spinach to my oatmeal (surprisingly good!).

Although at the times when I ate a lot of this stuff, I would at some point get bored and want differently prepared vegetables.
