Interesting study. It’s definitely the intuition of LWers that people tend to underestimate the distance between your mind and someone else’s mind. I think here this is commonly discussed as underestimating inferential distances. These ideas seem related to false consensus (actually, I’m interested in seeing some meta research about this). It seems like there should be some generalization of these ideas.

I thought we called this Typical Mind Fallacy. Although that’s more naming the problem rather than talking about how or why it might occur.
