It’s not unlike playing a lottery when you’re poor. You don’t pay money so you can win. You pay money so you can day dream of winning, so you can say “yes, but I might win the lottery”. Winning is low probability, but day dreaming is certain, and that’s what your money buys.
Isn’t that even more true for religions with an afterlife? I think very few cryonics people think they have a 100% chance of being revived, but a lot of religious people do.
