I played around with this and ended up going down some rabbit holes, as I was looking for a way to launch the voice recorder without ever firing the app (the UI flash was acceptable, but grated the back of my mind). Using Claude, I ended up vibe coding a solution that I’m happy to share—but you can edit the EVR apk so that the recording action can be called by outside apps. Then a small “helper app” can be set to the double press button, that just calls into the EVR “start recording” intent. End result is double tap goes directly to recording, with no UI flash (except the small Icon at the bottom that indicates it is recording and the green light that indicates the microphone is in use on the watch home screen).
As this post was super helpful to me, happy to share the apk packages I used if anyone wants them -
This was super helpful—thank you.
