This is the perfect day to find a nice warm rationality post. Just as a widely known singer once said: “Gotta get down on Friday”

On the other hand, when i look at self help i see something i will continue to delay/slowly progress at a constant rate because my current situation seems to be quite similar to my ideal situation. I think that once you reach that point is when you start a more constant but passive process of improvement.
I think that everyone has periods when they feel the way you do good sir. I hope it lasts, but i think Michaelos was being quite facetious in the way he pointed it out.
The only way i was ever able to get my sleep under control was by going through a full cycle… It didn’t last very long(about a month) but it gave me a sense of power over my sleep schedule when it came to things i truly cared about and so far this has led to me being much more effective.
Step 1: Stay up progressively later each night while sleeping as long as you can each night/day.(this should take about 4-7 days) Step 2: Once you get within two hours of your desired sleep target time, simply lie in bed slightly earlier in the day and try to focus on memory’s rather than new thoughts. Step 3: Slowly repeat step 2 over the next few weeks, while transitioning to more complex thoughts while lieing in bed.
The locus of control we feel for sleep is IMMENSELY important according to my research and my personal experience and i just thought id share my experience in defining my own schedule on my own terms.
Clippys value as an enforcer only applies to humans, if humans reached the point they could offer Clippy half a solar mass of paper clips i don’t think we would still be worrying about this issue.
Basically Clippy, Adelene is using evidence to support her reasoning but its quite hard to understand her logic pathway from a paperclip maximization perspective.
I think i understand your point of view and i agree with your sentiments, but do you honestly believe that Eliezer does this all for the money? I think that he likes being able to spend all his time working on this and the singularity institute definitely treats him well but the majority of people on less wrong including him really do want to save the world from what I’ve seen. As for his statement about cryonics, if hes passive about i don’t think many of the lurkers would consider signing up. Cryonics seems like a long shot to me but i think its reasonable to assume that he writes so emotionally about it because he honestly just wants more people to be vitrified in case we do manage to create an FAI. I would love to hear more about your reasons for skepticism because i share many of the same concerns, but so far Ive hear lo to the contrary wisdom on LW/OB.
I cant wait :)
More info about the book Eliezer is writing?
Double Welcome ^^
I went through a time like yours in college, but i found LW about the time you met Joesph and my roommate was much more cynical ;)
Tax deductible...
Ty for the link Alicorn and Raemon, and i think that harry has different circumstances then elfworld ^_^
In fact this is a fabulous fic, but it’s kinda like you grabbed a terry pratchet novel stuck it in a blender with a Steven Hawkins essay and a book on the theory of string theory, turned the blender on and then spiked the mixture with LSD. In a good way, i think.
I love this review
Quantum Physics, CERN and Hawking radiation
Ray Kurzweil on Bill Maher
Working on it ^^ i wanted to get it out there so people could turn to HBO, and this is discussion so i don’t really focus on the complex trains of thought.
Good turnout :)
“I bet that yeast, having once been multicellular, never lost it completely,” says Neil Blackstone, an evolutionary biologist at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. “I don’t think if you took something that had never been multicellular you would get it so quickly.” That gives me slight hope to the credence of my theory ^_^ as the “first movers” in that the first single cellular life which grouped into multicellularity life would experience evolution that allowed made them more friendly to multicellular life, so that even when split up they have systems that encourage reunification. As a whole however it does makes my mini theory less plausible, thanks for the help in Changing my Mind :)
I doubt that’s the main point of the project, i hope i would know as i have lurked it in great detail since it was first envisioned. That being said i agree that wedrifid’s answer is surprisingly terse.
