When I read your “Neuroscience of human social instincts: a sketch” specifically that subsection you mentioned I also believed that it could lead to something significant or maybe a nudge (which is something!). So I spent a bit of time researching and thinking about it. I think there’s some risk that you just might not find anything? There’s not a whole lot about personality and links to genes or neuroscience research so I suspect that you might be starting from scratch more than you might like. It’s also just all over the place so that would make things difficult too. I’m no expert in personality or neuroscience so who knows.
What I got out of my own thoughts on the matter is that it seems that we might have a set of primitive personality(?) modules that come together to build higher order personalities. I think the main problem is that those modules are very dynamic in the brain so it would be hard to pinpoint a module that contributes to the higher order personality.
I do think either way that that this is the most promising in some way.
