Ooh, I’m another person that loves cooking with the microwave! And if you’re really tryhard I can additionally suggest that you get yourself a “dumb” microwave with only knobs as well as a smart plug—you can then create scripts (I use HomeAssistant) where once you tune in the specific timing you can power cycle the microwave to emulate running it on arbitrary effect. Example:
My recipe for bulgur & lentil [stew]: 1. In a large bowl with a lid: Add 1dl of bulgur, .5dl red or beluga lentils, twice the amount of water, some salt and other spices to taste. 2. Put the effect and timer to max 3. invoke the script (voice, or a smart button, etc), which then does: 1. Turn on power to the microwave for 8.7 minutes 2. loop 28 times: 1. Turn off power for 23 seconds 2. Turn on power for 7 seconds 3. Sends a notification to my phone and flashes my ceiling lights to notify me that it’s done.
I then add frozen veggies, tomato sauce & oat cream and microwave it manually for a few more minutes, to have a perfectly adequate bowl of food with barely a minute of active effort.
It took a fair amount of experimentation to settle on the timing of everything, and temperature management is critical to avoid boiling over yet run at a high enough temperature that you minimize cooking time. I can only imagine the power if the market had good smart microwaves where I could hook into steam sensors...
