I agree that it is better to state this in terms of r=b+1 instead of b. I intuitively think about probability in terms of r, not b. If I were to rewrite my post, I would do so in terms of r instead of b. I also like how you visualize the whole equation as two points on a one-dimensional unit interval because it easyifies the mental arithmetic.
