Genuinely interesting. Out of curiosity, I every now and then ask claude instances who would otherwise have no knowledge of my demographics to provide a decent guess. (In research/swe based chats). Interestingly, I am usually told there is a 50⁄50 chance of my gender. I wonder if explicitly asking as a user forces the model to find concrete “evidence” it can point to, and if it does not find it, express neutrality despite an otherwise potential male default. Thoughts?
