Another potential reason to sell sooner rather than later:
Right now, there are multiple frontier AI labs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Deepmind, plus frontier-ish groups like Meta, X, etc).
But in the future, one of these labs, or maybe even some other group (like SSI, DeepSeek, etc) might “run away with it”, developing a commanding lead after they stumble onto the next big algorithmic breakthrough / paradigm shift / etc.
So, you might want to sell your shares now while things are still in a state of uncertainty, rather than gamble that your company will stay in the lead (or nearly-in-the-lead) forever.
There might even be an important mission-hedging aspect here? ie, if you think Anthropic is the most responsible AI company, then in worlds where they become #1, your donations are less important since they’ll hopefully be trying hard to do the right thing already. Versus if Meta or Grok or a Chinese company surges ahead, you might end up wishing that you had spent more of your Anthropic money earlier to try and influence AI regulation / international agreements / etc!
