Incidentally, a fine way to deal with fiction deprivation is to go forth and write some of your own. It’s fun, and most people who try it report that it’s hugely rewarding. (Either that or they don’t say anything at all. I have failed to prove my thesis! But it’s worth trying anyway.)

I found it incredibly tough, personally—the activity itself did not feel rewarding, just (at best) the results.
