I agree. I have been on reddit recently in the past month or so, and on many forums (singularity, agi, and random other ones that just pop into my feed) have discussions about this. They are dominated mostly by people who claim the safety risk is negligible. Some are not worth arguing with (e.g. “it’s all marketing hype” people). But there seem to be many there who fall back on the same tropes we are used to dealing with:
how would that even be possible?
just unplug it
They wouldn’t have human motivations
Some, very frustratingly, respond to articles about e.g. Jacob Coxon with things like, “Why don’t any of these people actually explain HOW it is a danger?” My reaction is generally, this information has been readily available for a decade… but when I go try to look for a great explainer, invariably I can’t find anything good that’s digestible in 5 minutes. Even Rational Animations tends to be a bit longwinded.
So, I support this goal. I don’t generally feel like responding to random stubborn redditors is a great experience for one’s mental health, but being able to point to a variety of succinct explainers that work for different audiences would go a long way.
