Washington, DC – ACX Meetups Everywhere 2021

This year’s ACX Meetup everywhere in Washington, DC.

We have a special event this month, Scott Alexander will be coming to our monthly Downtown Meetup! Scott launched a “Meetups Everywhere” tour for 2021, and DC is on the list, see his post here. To align with his travel schedule we’ll be starting at 5pm, not the usual 7pm, on the somewhat inauspicious date of September 11th.

Scott has requested that the meetup be outside. When he visited in 2019, we had 98 signups for the email list and passed out almost 150 name tags. In the event we get anything like that turnout, we’ll expand from Cassander’s patio at 1002 N St NW into the church parking lot immediately across the street. The house will be open for restrooms and food prep, but we’re not going to let groups of people congregate inside. We’re renting a few catering tents to have shade, but plan on standing a lot; wear comfortable shoes. If feasible, bring a blanket or folding chairs.

We also have a modest catering budget. Don’t expect a full meal, but it should be sufficient for heavy hors d’oeuvres. I’m planning to order a variety of widely-applicable foods from a few venues. If you have particular dietary requirements, please mention it in the comments below and I will do my best to accommodate.

Details:

  • Saturday, September 11th, 2021, beginning at 5PM

  • Location: Gather at 1002 N St NW, Washington DC, 20001.

  • Travel: 1002 N St NW is near the Convention Center, a short walk from the Mt Vernon Square metro station.

    • Due to heightened security for the 20th Anniversary of the September 11th attacks, please allow extra travel time, especially if driving.

    • If driving, there’s usually street parking within a few blocks, and several small paid lots nearby. I don’t want to direct people to any particular paid lot, since they could fill up, just look online or follow parking signs.

  • Food: Heavy Hors D’oeuvres provided

    • If you’d like to bring something to share, lean towards drinks, snacks, and deserts.

  • Masks: Required inside if around people (i.e. food prep, or waiting for the bathroom). Not required outside.
