Thanks for doing this. It’s also now my favorite depiction of utopia(s).
I haven’t read it all yet, but I think this is the way. This matches my own thinking on the logic of utopias (they must be plural, for preferences vary). Consent and choice is the essence of people getting what they want. Since people want things from other people, everyone can’t get exactly what they want. The way it’s handled here is the closest it’s possible to get, I think. That’s minus some.memory tampering and self-mond modification they might get to later in the story.
The only thing absent in utopias is sentient beings to help. That’s a pretty big absence given the strength of our prosocial instinct.
The presence of the spians is one way to address this. Just enjoying other things, or removing that social need from your mind are other ways.
In this world, with limited physical, the heavens would have to take place in simulation. I think it’s pretty inarguable that an upload is a continuation of you to the extent it’s an accurate copy, but convincing people of that would create a temporary wrinkle in how things unfold. Ultimately I think it would look exactly like this, with an exception of some competition for space or visiting the old, real earth.
