Is it fair to say you're enjoying the controversy you've started?
Thiel: I don't enjoy being contrarian.
Yes you do. *laughs*
Thiel: No, I think it is much more important to be right than to be contrarian.
Heh, I bet he was being coy. In my experience, people who can’t get any enjoyment out of wearing a clown suit (or, indeed, a scary uniform) - and aren’t somewhat, well, autistic—actively avoid saying contrarian things; it’s more or less social autopilot.
I read this as “people who aren’t ( (clownsuit enjoyers) and (autistic) ) …”, but it looks like others have read it as “people who aren’t (clownsuit enjoyers) and aren’t (autistic)” = “people who aren’t ( (clownsuit enjoyers) or (autistic) )”, which might be the stricter literal reading. Would you care to clarify which you meant?
Peter Thiel is, well, autistic. Or at least has some tendencies in that direction (he’s unlikely to be clinically autistic, with the possible exception of mild aspergers).
