Working on TAPs this past year, I would out the name of the TAP as my phone background (some of the TAPs were also related to being more mindful about being on my phone). It only took two weeks for it to become completely invisible. I would be interested in experiments with random/algorithmic UI and Color changes, optimised to be non ignorable.
Familiarity being confused with understanding is big. Instead of the approach, “How can I make things more novel?” it might be fruitful to ask, “How can I never let my confusion fade?” There are some classes at school, which I left with a feeling of general understanding, and it’s only when I sit down and think through the topic that I can find the holes and stuff that didn’t make sense. I would like to get better at the skill of leaving big Neon Sign stubs of confusion linked to certain topics, in such a way that the being sign always comes to mind when I’m thinking about the thing.
