Any other LW people interested in going to the Rally to Restore Sanity? I was thinking it would be fun to have a group of people there advocating Advanced Sanity (e.g. various LW/Bayesian themes). And some LW concepts (“Politics Is The Mind-Killer”, “Make Beliefs Pay Rent”, etc.) are unusual and wise-sounding and correct enough that they’d probably be good conversation-starters as sign slogans (...and I also made this nice E. T. Jaynes poster).
I’m currently planning to attend, and would love to meet up with LWers in some fashion. If I bring a sign, it will likely bear some variation of “Why Do You Believe What You Believe?”
Cool, hope to see you there. I wonder if this would be worth a top-level post, the same as with meetups and the Burning Man excursion?
Edit: I think I’ll wait and see if there are more responses here, actually. And maybe someone closer to DC could recommend a good place to meet up during the day?
This could be considered a meet-up, no? So I think it probably deserves a top-level post, if only for exposure. Case in point: despite me posting about it earlier I missed this post for a full 5 days :)
Anyhow, I’d like to collaborate on signs and/or meeting up. I want to promote rationality, and the site, and would love to have some sort of pamphlet or flyer to hand to people who were interested. But I know there are questions about whether it’s a good idea to actively try to get people to participate here, so I’m unsure whether to do so or not. I would like for there to be a short URL that would point towards a good intro or the About page (the current URL for the about page is unwieldy). Also, I have little social energy and am not very eloquent on the spot so I don’t consider myself an effective activist, and it would be useful to band with other people who could pick up any potential conversation. I will be attending with other non-LW friends but would not mind splitting up from them.

I’m likely to go—probably to meet up with some of the slacktivist blog people going, though.
I posted about this here (my first Open Thread post) 3 days before you, and was disappointed at the lack of replies: http://lesswrong.com/lw/2q7/open_thread_september_2010_part_2/2nf6?c=1

I’m not a good example of sanity and I’m not sure if I’m an “LW person”, but if I am I’m now cautiously interested in the idea of going.
Edit: Didn’t go.
