They give me some dollar amount, but then I say something like “I don’t want the answer in dollars but rather in dead African children.” Since we have just been discussing opportunity costs they catch on quickly to what I’m getting at.

Are we counting resale value, and are we buying new or used? That makes rather a lot of difference.
