From a dramatic standpoint, I don’t get why EY didn’t kill off Draco. This doesn’t create any in-universe plot hole, but from an out-of-universe standpoint:
1- Draco clearly has no more role in the story, as shown in the latest chapter
2- All parties would be more distressed by events (particularly Lucius), but could still act in the same manner despite this whilst seeming believable. This creates extra drama.

“Clearly”? That rather assumes lots and lots of stuff. I don’t share your assumptions regarding this.
All parties would be more distressed by events (particularly Lucius), but could still act in the same manner despite this whilst seeming believable.
If Draco died, Lucius would abandon his whole political game in a mad attempt to take vengeance on whoever he considered responsible—Harrymort, Dumbledore, whoever.
Plus, the grief/ over Draco’s death would shadow over Harry’s worry for Hermione in a way, in a sense that we’d not be able to get a proper appreciation of the latter.
Draco clearly has no more role in the story, as shown in the latest chapter.
I’m just not convinced this is true. If it is true, then practically every Draco-becoming-a-rationalist moment, along with every bit of saving Slytherin House was utterly pointless (from a story point of view). In other words, if all that was pointless, then I agree with you that not killing Draco is inexplicable.
Counterpoint to 1 - Lucius is a major player in the story now and Draco is important to him. Draco still has his rationality training and access to his father, if he needs to sway him.
Plus, Harry has given Draco an unblockable means of instantaneous communication that nobody even suspects he has. Plot-wise, that means he’s now never completely out of the story unless he gets killed or sent to Azkaban.
This is in fact the reason I know Draco will still have some role in the story. But we really should get some main character deaths if the story is ending.

That means of communication requires his wand. He may be denied his wand for reasons unrelated to that means of communication.
(Unlikely, though.)
